To form a core part of our identity and commitment at Second Congregational Church Palmer we reach out beyond our church walls. We connect with people in our town through service projects and activities. We are a community of Christians that cares for one another in word and deed.
Our thrift shop “The Caboose,” is open Fridays and Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The shop provides the community with a source for reasonably priced clothing, and household items. The shop also accepts donations of used clothing and household goods that are in very good condition.
We are the charter organization for local BSA scout troops 64, 164 and 5164. We also allow the use of our facilities to non-profit organizations like Girl Scouts, Operation Friendship, Lions Club, AA, Al-Anon, and Narcotics Anonymous meetings, a home school group, and the Highlander Bagpipers. Sharing our resources helps our local community thrive!
Our Missions Committee sponsors collections for many local, national, and international charities. These include homeless shelters, charities to support foster children, back-to-school items for local schools, and disaster relief.
Duffle Bags & Worry Eaters
One of recent mission projects was for “Help Our Kids” – a local non-profit organization providing foster children with personal items, duffle bags, musical instruments or sports equipment. Often, foster kids are placed into foster care with no suitcases, and sometimes with only plastic bags. Our handmade duffle bags act as a substitute. The “worry eaters” are a fun way for children to remove their worries by feeding them, through the zipper, into the worry eater.
Through our participation and financial support of our denomination, the United Church of Christ, we reach out to people and communities in need all across the world.
